Response to Dr. Wade

Dr. Wade's presentation was very insightful. She reinforced many of the themes from the readings in a way that resonated more closely with me and also added a more personal perspective. The most surprising piece of information that Dr. Wade shared was just how many non-profits exist in the US and how widely-encompassing the term "non-profits" actually is. Before the presentation,  I was not sure if my own career aspirations could fit into the world of non-profits but since hearing her speech, I have realized that almost any career career or skill set has a place in the non-profit world.

In addition, it was vary valuable for me to hear Dr. Wade's day-to-day, the ins and out of grant writing, and what to actually expect from our own board experiences. Again, these are all things that were covered to an extent in the readings but that I benefitted greatly from hearing about through Dr. Wade's experiences.

I was also very intrigued by the mission of "I Know I can." As someone who has worked extensively with youth and is passionate about issues in access to education, it is refreshing to hear of how successful her organization is and how much of a lasting impact the agency has made.

Finally, Dr. Wade offered some clarity on the logistics of non-profits. For example, I knew that 501(c)3 had some sort of unique taxation policy, but not specifically what that meant or if it applied to all non-profits.
